Soay Sheep

Soay sheep are a Scottish native breed, indigenous to the island of St. Kilda. Thousands of years of natural selection has resulted in a sheep well able to look after itself. They have self shedding fleeces, are amazingly agile and survive on coastal grasses and seaweed. This made them the ideal breed to be introduced to Dowlaw Farm in 2000 as part of a conservation grazing project in partnership with Scottish Natural Heritage.
The conditions at Dowlaw are wild and as near to Soay native habitat on St. Kilda as they can get. They thrive with no supplementary feeding, or other usual husbandry practices. In fact the lambs for sale have never been handled except for gathering prior to marketing.
They are truly organic and have SOPA (Scottish Organic Producers Association) accredited status. More than that they are WILD and TASTY!
