Dowlaw Farm

Fast Castle can be found on Dowlaw Organic Farm, positioned on the cliffs above the dramatic East Berwickshire coastline in the Scottish Borders.

Dowlaw Farm is an organic sheep farm. We have a flock of over 100 breeding Soay Sheep which are a native breed from Scotland. They graze the extensive sea brae's that surround the farm. We also have a commercial flock of organic Suffolk crosses.
Dowlaw Dowlaw Farm is run by Ian and Sarah Russell. Land management and conservation are important factors in the farm policy. Dowlaw is surronded by amazing landscape, much of which is designated as SSSI's (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

These sites include the coastal sea brae's and the Dowlaw Dean (part owned by the NTS). With these designations in mind, decisions regarding the farm have always had the conservation of the area in mind.

These decisions are now paying off, as the diversity of wildlife that can be found on the farm is amazing. It is also a fantastic  place for birdwatching, not only for the seabirds nesting on the cliffs below historic Fast Castle, but due to the location of the farm, many migrant birds can be found.

The historical aspect of the farm is also of great interest, with the ruins of Fast Castle teetering on a cliff top peninsula, and many archaeological sites dotted around.
